The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile scenic route that connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smokies National Park in North Carolina by following the crest of the Blue Ridge.

Construction started during the peak of the Great Depression in 1935, but not completed until 1987. Most of the entire route is relatively free of commercial development and offers great scenic vistas as wells as many offroad adventures.

A variety of wildflowers bloom in the spring and the trees turn into brilliant colors during the fall. Many hiking trailheads are also available.
