Founded in 1691, this busy 18th century tobacco port, became very famous for the The Battle of Yorktown, where Gen. Washington defeated the British forces and victoriously ended the American Revolutionary War. But less than 100 years later it was the sight of another great conflict when Gen. McClellan landed Union forces here in 1862 and launched the Peninsular Campaign.

Living history museum chronicles major events and home life during
the American Revolution.
Swan Tavern Group
Tavern, kitchen, smokehouse and stables located on Main and Ballard streets.
The main building was destroyed when a Union Army powder magazine
exploded across the street in the courthouse. Buildings have been
restored to show original period architecture.
Watermen's Museum

Five galleries portraying the watermen of Chesapeake Bay.
