Situated atop the Virginia's scenic Blue Ridge Mountains is this beautiful wilderness preserve. To the west is the famous Shenandoah River Valley and to the east is the vast Piedmont Pleateau of central Virginia. This 196,000 plus acre national parkland was establiched in 1926. Please note that the park is usually 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding valleys.
Local Wildlife include deer, black bears and wild turkeys.
Seasonal wildflowers bloom in the springtime along pathways and in the open meadows.

Mathews Arm Campground - Northern most facility located
on Skyline Drive at the trailhead to Overall Run Falls. 179 sites -

Big Meadows Campground - (Mile 51.3)
Adjacent to three waterfalls, the meadows and abundant wildlife and vegetation. Open May - Nov.
Fee. 217 sites.
Lewis Mountain Campground - (Mile 57.5)
With 32 sites, one of the smallest camping spots in the park. Open May-Oct.
Loft Mountain Campground - (Mile 79.5)
219 site location adjacent to Big Run Wilderness area and two waterfalls.
Dundo Group Campground - (Mile 83.7)
Primitive facility for educational groups. Reservations required.

Skyline Drive weaves some 105 miles along the mountain crestline for much of the length of the park. It offers tourists many colorful scenic vistas. While the park is always open, this road may close intermitantly, i.e., from dusk to dawn during huntin season and during inclement weather.
There are over 500 miles of wilderness trails including a 101-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. These trails meander along ridgelines, down narrow canyons and past secluded waterfalls.
Overall Run Falls - Trailhead leaves from Mathews Arm
Campground at northern end of park. Leads to tallest waterfall in the park.

Adjacent to three waterfalls, the meadows and abundant wildlife and vegetation.
