Cedar City was originally started as mining town with the find
of iron ore deposits in the area. But the mines closed when the transcontinental
railroad was able to deliver even cheaper iron. Since 1920 this area
has done well as a tourism destination.

Cedar Breaks National Monument
This parkland offers incredible scenic views of the surrounding canyons.
Because of its high elevation - over 10,000 feet - it keeps relatively cool even
during summer - rarely topping over 75 degrees.
Tour Brian Head Ski Area
Brian Head Resort offers riding on two distinct mountains, Navajo Mountain and Giant Steps Mountain.
The resort usually sees over 400 inches of the "Greatest Snow on Earth".

Iron Mission State Park

Site of the first iron foundry west of the Mississippi, built in 1851.
Several 19th and early 20th century stagecoaches and motorcars.

Located on the Southern Utah University campus in a replica
of the open-air Globe Theatre. Various Shakespeare and other major

Historic Downtown District - Dine * Shop
Location : a one-block area between Center Street to 200 North in Cedar City.
The buildings have been changed to their original turn of the century splendor. The renovations have made the area a charming place to meet, dine and shop.
Old Rock Church - landmark church built during the Great Depression with bright colorful rock from nearby stone quarries.
Old Pacific Union Depot - now home to a Godfather's Restaurant and Depot Antiques and Crafts. You can find a pictorial history of the Depot and the Railway inside the restaurant.
Bar G Chuckwagon Wranglers - summer dinner theater -
- enjoy cowboy poetry, music, cowboy gun slinging while they serve up a good old fashioned chuckwagon meal.
