    Salt Lake Hunter LDS Stake

390th stake of the LDS Church was founded in 1964 with Verne Breeze as first stake president. The stake was first divided in 1972 with the formation of the Hunter West Stake.

Hunter was not settled until 1876 with the arrival of Rasmus Nielsen, Edward Rushton, August Larsen and about seven others along with their families. Irrigation began in 1881 and the main crop was fruit trees.

The city began to experience rapid growth in the 1970s, when the area that is now West Valley City consisted of the four separate communities of Hunter, Granger, Chesterfield, and Redwood. These four unincorporated areas merged in 1980 to form the present-day city.

    Jordan River Temple

One of the busiest temples in the Mormon Church today. Enjoy the peace and serenity of the outdoor gardens and fountain. This single spire edifice is the only temple dedicated by President Marion G Romney, 2nd counselor in the First Presidency, in November 1981.

Why do Mormons build temples? And why are they closed on Sundays but bustling with activity the rest of the week?
