This farming area grew with the arrival of the railroad in the 1880's and later with the discovery of coal. It also became popular with such outlaw gangs as the Brown's Hole Gang and Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch.

Price has five movie theatres, two bowling alleys and a vast array of outdoor recreational facilities.

Located in Carbon County, the heart of southeastern Utah's Castle Country. The area contains majestic geological formations, spectacular desert canyons and plateaus. Castle Country is also rich in prehistoric and historical treasures, with world renowned dinosaur quarries, abundant ancient rock art, ghost towns and company coal towns.

Location: 30 miles south of Price on SR-155;
Some 12,000 bones of over 70 different animal species have been recovered from this quarry which provides major dinosaur skeletal exhibits to museums all over the world. The area was once a shallow lake with a muddy bottom that trapped many unwary animals.

Western Mining & Railroad Museum

The museum is located in the small town of Helper, named so because of the engines required to help the trains of The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad climb the steep grades to Soldier Summit. Four floors of exhibits on the history of railroads and coal mining. Basement exhibit of simulated coal mine. Main floor has very extensive model train display.
