    Encompassing nearly 1.3 million ecologically-diverse acres, including seven Wilderness areas, the Forest is one of the most frequently visited in the nation.

    Beaver Mountain Ski Resort - Logan Canyon
    Location : Beaver Mountain is located 27 miles east of Logan, UT, in the Wasatch-Cache National forest.
    Family-owned and operated since 1939, Beaver Mountain is an all-around ski and snowboard resort.

    Bear Lake
    Anglers enjoy year-round fishing for cutthroat, mackinaw, cisco, and whitefish. Lake trout (mackinaw) also inhabit the lake and may grow to 30 lbs. Bear Lake is home to a trophy cutthroat trout fishery where the Idaho State record cutthroat of 19 lbs. was caught. Ice-fishing during the winter is a popular activity. There are four species of fish that cannot be found anywhere else including the Bonneville Cisco. They move in close to shore to spawn in mid January and can be dip-netted through the ice.

    Utah State Campus Recreation
    The Department of Campus Recreation houses and advises six major recreation and conservation programs: Intramurals, Outdoor Recreation Center, Utah Conservation Corps, Club Sports, Informal Recreation and Recreation Instruction Program.

    Twin Peaks Wilderness Area
    11,000 acres of wilderness bounded by Little Cottonwood Canyon and Big Cottonwood Canyon. Many hike Broads Fork in route to Twin Peaks, while Mill B South is visited for its lakes. Because of its proximity to Salt Lake City, this area is popular for hikers attempting to scale steep terrain and mountain peaks.

    Mount Olympus Wilderness Area
    15,000 acres of wilderness is shared by Mill Creek Canyon and Big Cottonwood Canyon. Bicyclist like to ride the Desolation Trail to the Mill A Basin Trail and out or exit the forest by way of Butler Fork. This area is the spectacular backdrop for the Salt Lake Valley and is dominated by rugged terrain, narrow canyons, and high peaks, including Mount Olympus, Mount Raymond, and Gobbler's Knob.

    High Uintas Wilderness
    High wilderness country that includes 276,157 acres of the Ashley National Forest and 180,530 acres of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Elevations range from 6,000 feet to over 13,500 feet.

    Lone Peak Wilderness Area
    31,165 acres (20,829 acres on the Uinta NF, 10,336 acres on the Wasatch-Cache NF). This area contains very rugged terrain with narrow canyons and high peaks, including the Little Matterhorn at 11,326 feet and Lone Peak at 11,253 feet. Snow often remains on these alpine peaks until midsummer.

    The Ice Sheet - Ogden UT
    The Ice Sheet offers not only public skating, lesson programs, hockey, figure skating and speed skating - but they also bring ice shows, pro shop and conference center space.

    Ben Lomond Climbing Center - Ogden UT
    With over 4,000 s.f. of indoor rock climbing and 18 top-ropes, the BLCC provides a safe, fun environment that is great for parties, youth groups, families, etc.

    Hyrum Dam State Park
    Recreation opportunities here include fishing, boating, and camping. Surrounded by tall, shady trees, Hyrum provides an excellent place for an afternoon picnic, or spend the whole weekend trolling on the lake catching yellow perch, rainbow trout, bluegill, and largemouth bass.

    Red Rock Ranch & Outfitters - Huntsville UT
    Longest operating ranch in Northern Utah (since 1866) that today operates a chuck wagon cafe and outfitters for horseback riding and snowmobile trails. Nearby is scenic Causey Reservoir hidden in the hills. a real working cattle ranch complete with cattle drives for the public. The ranch is home to mountain lions, mule deer, bob cats, red fox, moose, elk, wild turkeys, sand hill cranes, bald eagles, golden eagles and many other species of wildlife.


Adventure Overview Northern Utah State Parks

    Great Salt Lake State Park
    State Marina offers spectacular views of sunsets over the Great Salt Lake and provides marina access for sailors, sculling enthusiasts, other boaters, and bird watchers. A remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville, the Great Salt Lake covers more than 2,000 square miles and is several times saltier than the ocean. The lake attracts more than 257 species of birds, depending on the season.

    Antelope Island State Park
    The largest island in the Great Salt Lake and home to a roaming herd of 600 bison. Pronghorn antelope and bighorn sheep also share the rangelands that overlook the desert lake. Opportunities to view wildlife are available on backcountry trails, which are open to horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking and cross-country skiing. A modern visitor center offers information on the island’s unique biology, geology and history.

    Willard Bay State Park
    Willard Bay located in the northeast corner of the Great Salt Lake flood plain in northern Utah. Its 9,900 acres of fresh water provide boating, waterskiing and year-round fishing for crappie, walleye, wiper and catfish. Willard Bay State Park is popular for camping. Two state-owned facilities, North and South Marinas, are available to visitors.

    East Canyon State Park - Morgan UT
    East Canyon State Park is a 680-acre boating and year-round fishing delight nestled in the mountains northeast of Salt Lake City. Although popular with water recreationists, East Canyon is also an attraction for history buffs. Nearby trails mark the steps of the Donner Party and the first Mormon settlers.

    Rail Trail State Park
    The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail is a 28-mile non-motorized trail. The trail begins or ends in Park City and follows Interstate 80 through Wanship and Coalville to Echo Reservoir. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, jogging, Nordic skiing and wildlife watching.

    Rockport State Park
    Just a quick 45-minute drive from Salt Lake City and features first-rate fishing, waterskiing, swimming, sailboarding and sailboating. Surrounded by juniper trees, sagebrush, willows, and cottonwoods, Rockport Reservoir is a great stop for the day, or a weekend trip. Rockport’s mountain setting offers something for every visitor.

    Echo Reservoir
    Echo Reservoir Contains rainbow and brown trout; channel catfish. Stocked with catchables in the fall. Elevation is 5,500 feet. Take I-80 from Salt Lake or I-84 from Ogden to Coalville. Resort, camping, picnicking. Private boat ramp. Limited foot access. Heavy water skier use. More good fishing can be found nearby in Coalville on Weber River and Chalk Creek.

    Danger Cave - Wendover UT
    Some 11,000 years ago members of the Great Basin Desert Culture left behind fascinating evidence of their existence at a site known as Danger Cave.

    Jordan River Parkway

    The Jordan River runs north-south through the center of the valley, just west and mostly parallel to Interstate 15. Salt Lake County is working with Salt Lake City and Murray City to develop a continous trailway from the Utah County line on the south to the Davis County line on the north. The parkway trails wind through wetlands with cattails willows, foxes, and a variety of bird life. Over seven miles of trail are paved for pedestrians and bicycles. Patient bird-watchers can spot a large number of fowl visiting here including bald eagles, shrikes, hawks, pheasants and hummingbirds.


Adventure Overview Northern Utah Wildlife Refuge

    Ogden Bay Wildlife Management Area
    Located at the Great Salt Lake mouth of the Weber River where bird species utilizing these remnants of fresh water marshland are too numerous to mention. Residents include Peregrine Falcon, American Bittern, Hooded Merganser, Northern Shrike (winter), or Virginia Rail. Also home to ducks, geese, herons and egrets.

    Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge
    19,000 acres of marsh, open water, and grasslands at an elevation of 5,900 feet in the mountain-ringed Bear Lake Valley. The marsh is drawn down severely for agriculture in late summer and is covered with ice in winter. Especially important as a nesting area for white-faced ibis, Canada geese and redhead ducks. Also a nesting, resting and feeding area for ducks, greater sandhill cranes, and a variety of water and shorebirds.

    Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area
    19,000-acre Hardware Ranch offers horse-drawn sleigh rides to view hundreds of wintering elk up close. During the summer, the Hardware Ranch area provides great opportunities for outdoor recreation and wildlife viewing. Activities include sleigh ride and restaurant.
