    Wasatch-Cache National Forest
    Encompassing nearly 1.3 million ecologically-diverse acres, including seven Wilderness areas, the Forest is one of the most frequently visited in the nation.

    Bear Lake State Park is nestled high in the Rocky Mountains on the Utah-Idaho border. The cool waters are ideal for waterskiing, swimming, scuba diving, and sailing. Anglers enjoy year-round fishing for cutthroat, mackinaw, cisco, and whitefish. Bear Lake State Park offers three recreation areas, including Rendezvous Beach, Bear Lake Marina, and East Beach.
    Bear Lake Mountain Man Rendezvous - [Sept] Festival includes rifle and pistol shooting, a variety of races and a Dutch oven cook-off.
    Raspberry Days - [Aug] Join in the festivities with craft booths, parade, rodeo and fireworks.

    Bear Lake Fishing
    Anglers enjoy year-round fishing for cutthroat, mackinaw, cisco, and whitefish. Lake trout (mackinaw) also inhabit the lake and may grow to 30 lbs. Bear Lake is home to a trophy cutthroat trout fishery where the Idaho State record cutthroat of 19 lbs. was caught. Ice-fishing during the winter is a popular activity.

    There are four species of fish that cannot be found anywhere else including the Bonneville Cisco. They move in close to shore to spawn in mid January and can be dip-netted through the ice.

    Bear Lake Hunting
    Today, the majestic Rocky Mountain Elk (Wapiti), the regal Mule Deer and the unique Shiras moose are elusive quarry of big game hunters. These healthy herds of game animals need to be managed through the use of hunting in order to ensure their survival. Popular hunting equipment includes cartridge and black powder rifles and archery equipment such as compound, long, and recurve bows.

    Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge

    19,000 acres of marsh, open water, and grasslands on the north shore of mountain-ringed Bear Lake. The marsh is drawn down severely for agriculture in late summer and is covered with ice in winter. Especially important as a nesting area for white-faced ibis, Canada geese and redhead ducks. Also a nesting, resting and feeding area for ducks, greater sandhill cranes, and a variety of water and shorebirds.

    Bear River Heritage Area
    The Bear River Heritage Area straddles the Idaho-Utah border where the Great Basin and the Rocky Mountains meet. It is home to a strong agricultural economy, history-laced landscape, and abundant natural beauty. Retrace the footsteps of early fur traders, Mormon settlers, and generations of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation.

    Scenic Trails
    Pleasant scenic hiking and biking excursions can be had during the spring, summer and fall.
    Laketown / Meadowville - There is a pioneer cemetary and ghost town along the way. An elaborate old mansion and an old wood frame schoolhouse are all that remain.
    St. Charles Canyon - At the top, you can visit the Minnetonka Cave. It is a nine room cave full of stalactites, stalagmites and banded travertine. Guided tours available during the summer.
    Randolph/Crawford - Numerous mine shafts dot the east face of the Crawford Mountains.
    Garden City Park Walkway - A raised wooden walkway to the lake at Garden City Park.
    Great Western Trail - A trail that extends from the Arizona border all the way to the Canadian border. The trail passes through the Wasatch/Cache National Forest and Bear Lake area.
    Bloomington Lake Trail - Hike or drive via a rough, unpaved road. This small glacial lake is located in a spectacular setting of cliffs and waterfalls. During the summer, wildflowers surround this clear mountain lake.
    Highline Trail - A 55-mile trail accessible from Bloomington Canyon, Paris Canyon, Emigration Canyon and Logan Canyon. Open to hiking, horseback riding, motor bikes and mountain bikes.
