Quick Tips - Motorsports Adventures

Enjoy a Motorsports Vacation Adventure
Only by being there can you sense the sights, smells and sounds of this powerhouse event that continues to pull larger crowds than most any other sporting venue. Some venues pull in crowds of over 100,000 fans. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy a day at the races:

What Should I Bring? -
Hat, sunblock, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes and maybe most important are some ear muffs or plugs. (Yes, it does get really loud.) Don't forget your camera or video-cam.

Where is the Best Seat? -

  • oval-track races - the best spot is the starting and finish line. You can see the start, finish, restarts (after an accident) and you are also looking straight on into Pit Row.
  • road racing events - roam the course and check out the action at both the corners and straightaways.
  • drag racing - Here are the drag strips featuring the 300-plus mph cars. Most fans enjoy the noise of the starting "burnout" area. But if you want a taste for speed, goto the finish line where parachutes popout to stop these things.

    Get Inside the Action -

  • drag racing pit area - most areas are open to the public before, during and after the races. Get an autograph or photo from your favorite driver.
  • radio scanner - At NASCAR listen in as the pit crews communicate with the drivers during the race.
  • Event Programs - More info about special venues, drivers, cars, etc.

    More Quick Tips -

  • Prepare to Arrive Early and Stay Late - NASCAR races can draw 100,000-plus fans. NHRA drag races can draw 50,000-plus.
  • Reserve your Seats -
  • Transportation - because of the huge crowds, parking made be a challenge, but public transportation is frequently available.
  • Race Event Preview - Read up on the particular race you plan to attend. Look for info about the top drivers and the racetrack. Check out the racetrack website for special event info.
