The oldest city in Polk County, Historic Fort Meade dates back to 1849 when a settlement grew up around a U.S. Cavalry Fort of the Seminole Indian Wars. More than three hundred homes in its historic district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Meade Sports Complex
Located on North Edgewood Drive, just north of Fort Meade High School
This complex is the hub for most of the school’s and community’s sports league play and consists of a baseball facility with four official fields and two practice fields and a combination concession/press box building. A playground apparatus combo set and a multi-porpoise basketball court are included on the county site. Located on school property are the softball field, a track/football stadium, four lighted tennis, four racquetball courts and open sports field areas.

Situated among three small lakes, with lots of native plants and wildlife is this 16.5 acre water park. Amenities include 2 floating fishing docks, 850’ paved nature walkway, restroom and concession facility, 2 garden gazebo picnic areas, beach volleyball area, 2 observation/fishing decks and plenty of parking.

Fort Meade Outdoor Recreation Area - US 98 East (on Peace River) - on the grounds are a ¼ mile nature walk to the river, a canoe launch (w/parking), a number of picnic tables and grills and an archery practice range.
