About 44 small
coral islands, or keys, form a chain across the park offering excellent
snorkeling and scuba diving around living coral reef. Mangrove woods
line the shore and islands.
Dry Tortugas National Park
A clustor of seven tiny, uninhabited coral reef islands located about
70 miles west of Key West, in the Gulf of Mexico. These islands are the
crowded home to thousands of nesting and migrating sea birds.
Tour Everglades National Park
1,398,800 acres of scenic, slow-moving, subtropical, marshy wilderness
protected since 1947. Draining into Florida Bay and covered in places by
tall prairie grasses and mangrove forests, this parks is best known for
its rich and varied wildlife of crocodiles, alligators, manatees, ospreys,
bald eagles and herons.
Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary
The 2,800 square nautical mile Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) surrounds the
entire archipelago of the Florida Keys and includes the productive waters of Florida Bay, the Gulf of Mexico
and the Atlantic Ocean. Cultural resources are also contained within the sanctuary. The proximity of coral
reefs to centuries old shipping routes has resulted in a high concentration of shipwrecks and an abundance of artifacts.
The Sanctuary includes three major habitats - coral reef, mangroves and seagrasses.
Fort Zachary Taylor - Key West
Located off Southard St. is this Union Army fort that served
as a Civil War stronghold. Recent excavations have uncovered a
hidden arsenal. Largest collection of Civil War cannons.
Key West Aquarium - Mallory Square
The aquarium is exhibits marine life native to the Florida Key waters and
dates back to the early 1930's. The Aquarium features a wide variety of fish including grouper, moray eels, barracuda,
tropical fish, tarpon, sharks, parrotfish and much, much more. During your tour, you will even be able to
pet a live shark! Also see turtles and exotic birds.
Pennekamp Coral Reef - Key Largo
This state park preserves both land area and an extensive 178 nauticle miles of
undersea coral reef area. Park features include dive sites, boat tours, mangrove boardwalk,
aqarium and visitors center.
Crane Point Hammock - Marathon FL
Collection of historic sites, museums, childrens center, wildlife habitat and nature trails
and recreated 600-foot coral reef cave.
Homestead - Miami Motorsports Complex
Auto-racing and motorsports events throughout the year including the Grand Prix of Miami sometime in late February.
National Key Deer Refuge - Big Pine Key
8,500 acre preserve established in 1957 to protect the endangered Key Deer located mostly on Big Pine Key and No Name Key.
Refuge is home to the imperiled tropical hardwood hammock habitat and 22 federally listed endangered and threatened species
of plants and animals, five of which are found nowhere else in the world.
