35-acre historic beachfront estate that was the winter home of two renowned artists, Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. They designed the plantation-style house during the 1920's and incorporated features of loggias accented with inlaid shellwork and balconies enclosed with lacy wrought iron made in New Orleans.
The residence is surrounded by lagoons, gardens, fruit groves, desert garden and a mangrove jungle. Many of the plants were started with seeds collected during the couple' world travels.
Noteworthy interior work includes artwork, decorative accents and hand-painted ceilings. Furishings include their collection of porcelains, religious figures, and objects found on the beach. An orchid garden and shell museum are also here.
Bonnet House is situated on a coral barrier island bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the Intracoastal Waterway.
This unique land is held today in the same state as it was in the 1920's when the house was built.
