California Coastal National Monument

Historic beach front site contains much of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, an important wildlife habitat.
The salt and freshwater marshes give refuge to migrating waterfowl and resident wading birds, such as black-necked stilt, avocet, teal,
American widgeon and pelican. The park offers hiking, horse trails, surf fishing and birding.
In 1848, the Mexican-American border commission started here to survey and mark the new international border.

This beautiful 1051 acre wetland where the Tijuana River meets the sea is southern California's only coastal lagoon not bisected by roads and rail lines.

Following along the isthmus connecting Coronado Island to Imperial Beach with extensive beachfront facilities
on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area’s mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand
one of the area’s finest recreation destinations. Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and
picnicking are popular activities. Anglers can fish for perch, corbina, grunion and yellow-fin croaker.
There are approximately 130 first come first served campsites.
The bay side of the park offers views of San Diego Bay. Three pedestrian tunnels lead from the parking lots under the highway to the bay side of the park.
The water in the bay area is usually warmer and calmer, perfecting for swimming and sailing. Ramadas, tables, barbecue pits, and fire rings are available in the area.
Park visitors will be able to gain Wi-Fi access when they use a wireless device within about 150 to 200 feet of the Life Guard Tower located in the park.

Southwestern College watersports facility located between the city of Imperial Beach and the city of Coronado in the Silver Strand State Beach, it provides a wide range of educational and
recreational activities to the surrounding communities. The primary focus is to promote boating and water safety programs with the vision to expand to other
boating sites in the area.

One of the best scenic tours in all of San Diego takes you to
a small hidden beach cove tucked in between sea cliffs and tide pools
making it a frequent stopping place for visitors such as sea lions
and harbor seals.
This place includes the Sunny Jim Cave accessible only
thru a staircase from a souvenir shop at 1325 Coast Blvd.
San Diego - La Jolla Underwater Park

Created in 1970, the underwater park is a continuing community project to preserve the natural ecology, reestablish the underwater sea life and
maintain the natural beauty of the shoreline. Within the Park there are two special areas created by the California Fish & Game Commission;

Otay Valley Regional County Park

The regional park will extend about 11 miles inland from the southeastern edge of the salt ponds at the mouth of the river, through the Otay River Valley, to the land surrounding both Lower and Upper Otay Lakes.
Currently there are no active or passive recreational areas in the park, other than the County-owned and operated facility at Otay Lakes.
It will provide South Bay residents and visitors recreational opportunities ranging from playing fields and picnic areas to hiking, biking, and horse trails.
At the same time, the park will protect open space, wildlife, historic, agricultural, and archaeological resources.
Tijuana River Valley Regional Park

This 1638-acre park offers a diverse array of habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa.
Visitors may hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best bird watching spots in the county.
Another popular feature of the park is the Community Garden at Hollister and Sunset, which provides area residents a place to exercise their green thumbs.

Visitors to this 539-acre regional park have quite a palette of activities to choose from. The Summit Site, atop a hill overlooking the Sweetwater Valley,
offers modern campsites – including some with corrals for equestrians who want to bring their horses and explore the 15 miles of trails in the area.
Below the summit are hundreds of acres of streamside vegetation, grassland, and open areas that provide a variety of habitats for hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers.
