    Old Town San Diego State Historic Park

This park covers a six block area (bounded by Wallace, Juan, Twiggs and Congress sts) re-creating the founding of the first European settlement in California.     San Dieguito River Park
    Partially completed Coast-to-Crest wilderness trail follows the path of the San Dieguito Rivier. The Park will someday extend from the ocean at Del Mar to Volcan Mountain, just north of Julian and may even connect with the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park just beyond. It will wind past Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Escondido, Lake Hodges and Lake Sutherland.

    California Coastal National Monument
    Established in 2000, the California Coastal National Monument runs the entire length of the California coast (1,100 miles) between Oregon and Mexico, extends 12 nautical miles from the shoreline, and encompasses thousands of BLM administered islands, rocks, exposed reefs, and pinnacles above mean high tide. These provide forage and breeding grounds for significant populations of coastal birds and sea mammals.

It is home to Camp Fiesta Island (a boy scout summer camp), SeaCamp oceanography youth club and San Diego's Kayak Team. It is adjacent to Enchanted Cove which is a popular for non-motor based watersports such as Kite Surfing, Small Sailboats, Boardsailing and Kayaking.

    Historic beach front site contains much of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, an important wildlife habitat. The salt and freshwater marshes give refuge to migrating waterfowl and resident wading birds, such as black-necked stilt, avocet, teal, American widgeon and pelican. The park offers hiking, horse trails, surf fishing and birding. In 1848, the Mexican-American border commission started here to survey and mark the new international border.
    Tijuana Estuary - National Estuarine Research Reserve - Visitor Center for bird-watching and equestrian trails.
    Tijuana Slough NWR - FWS website for National Wildlife Refuge on the northern part of river slough with visitor center. This beautiful 1051 acre wetland where the Tijuana River meets the sea is southern California's only coastal lagoon not bisected by roads and rail lines.

    Silver Strand State Beach

    Following along the isthmus connecting Coronado Island to Imperial Beach with extensive beachfront facilities on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area’s mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand one of the area’s finest recreation destinations. Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and picnicking are popular activities. Anglers can fish for perch, corbina, grunion and yellow-fin croaker. There are approximately 130 first come first served campsites. The bay side of the park offers views of San Diego Bay. Three pedestrian tunnels lead from the parking lots under the highway to the bay side of the park. The water in the bay area is usually warmer and calmer, perfecting for swimming and sailing. Ramadas, tables, barbecue pits, and fire rings are available in the area. Park visitors will be able to gain Wi-Fi access when they use a wireless device within about 150 to 200 feet of the Life Guard Tower located in the park.

    Southwestern College watersports facility located between the city of Imperial Beach and the city of Coronado in the Silver Strand State Beach, it provides a wide range of educational and recreational activities to the surrounding communities. The primary focus is to promote boating and water safety programs with the vision to expand to other boating sites in the area.

    La Jolla Cove La Jolla Cove - Beach

    One of the best scenic tours in all of San Diego takes you to a small hidden beach cove tucked in between sea cliffs and tide pools making it a frequent stopping place for visitors such as sea lions and harbor seals. This place includes the Sunny Jim Cave accessible only thru a staircase from a souvenir shop at 1325 Coast Blvd.

    Created in 1970, the underwater park is a continuing community project to preserve the natural ecology, reestablish the underwater sea life and maintain the natural beauty of the shoreline. Within the Park there are two special areas created by the California Fish & Game Commission; the Ecological Reserve and the Marine Life Refuge.

    San Dieguito County Park - Del Mar CA
    The four reservable picnic areas at this park are set among towering eucalyptus groves that characterize this part of the county. Only minutes from the ocean, this park is cooled by the sea breezes during warm summer months. A ball field, basketball court, play areas, and hiking trails are nearby for picnickers to enjoy.

    Torrey Pines State Reserve
    Encompasses 2000 acres of coastal bluff, home to the protected rare Torrey Pines trees. The Torrey pine is the rarest native pine in the United States. This preserve has oer eight miles of trails that take you to the coastline and coastal lagoon.

    Otay Valley Regional County Park

    The regional park will extend about 11 miles inland from the southeastern edge of the salt ponds at the mouth of the river, through the Otay River Valley, to the land surrounding both Lower and Upper Otay Lakes. Currently there are no active or passive recreational areas in the park, other than the County-owned and operated facility at Otay Lakes. It will provide South Bay residents and visitors recreational opportunities ranging from playing fields and picnic areas to hiking, biking, and horse trails. At the same time, the park will protect open space, wildlife, historic, agricultural, and archaeological resources.

    Tijuana River Valley Regional Park

    This 1638-acre park offers a diverse array of habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa. Visitors may hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best bird watching spots in the county. Another popular feature of the park is the Community Garden at Hollister and Sunset, which provides area residents a place to exercise their green thumbs.

    Visitors to this 539-acre regional park have quite a palette of activities to choose from. The Summit Site, atop a hill overlooking the Sweetwater Valley, offers modern campsites – including some with corrals for equestrians who want to bring their horses and explore the 15 miles of trails in the area. Below the summit are hundreds of acres of streamside vegetation, grassland, and open areas that provide a variety of habitats for hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers.
