The largest amphibious training facility in the nation, USMC Camp Pendleton covers 17 miles of Pacific coastline north of Oceanside. It is home to 35,000 active duty Marines and their dependents of the U.S. 1st Marine Division and related units. Visitors may tour during daylight hours - enter thru the Main Gate off the I-5 Freeway.

While many military bases share one or more of Camp Pendleton's training features, none match its broad spectrum. Camp Pendleton has a population of nearly 40,000 Marines and Sailors and provides a variety of services and recreational activities.

Camp Pendleton Base Tours
In order to come aboard base, be ready to show identification, proof of insurance and proof of registration at the gate. In addition to the driving self-tour of significant sites, two museums are available for one-and-a-half hour tours on the base.

Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton
Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton is a 123 bed facility, overlooking Lake O'Neill and is located approximately 10 miles from the main gate at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA. In addition, six Marine Corps medical clinics are supported by the Naval Hospital and staffed by First Marine Expeditionary Force and subordinate commands' medical staff.

Landing Craft Museum
The World War II and Korea LVT Museum is located in Building 21561 in the base's boat basin and is maintained by the Assault Amphibious School Battalion. To visit the vintage amphibious tracked vehicles, related artifacts and informational displays contact the school at 725-2195. The museum is normally open Tuesdays through Sundays in the early afternoons.

USMC Mechanized Command Museum
Building 2612 in Rattlesnake Canyon houses working Marine Corps transport and battle vehicles interpret the history of Marine usage since 1942.

The Ranch House Complex -
Historic Home of Governor Pio Pico
Includes the Ranch House Chapel, the oldest structure on the base, the Bunkhouse Museum and Chapel. Includes many artifacts from the early history of this area. Tours are booked for Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. between the last week in September to the end of May.

Oceanside Pier
One of the longest piers on the west coast - very popular for fishing and there is a Ruby's Restaurant on the end. At the base of the pier is a bandshell which is the site of special concert events.

Oceanside Harbor

Oceanside Harbor is home to 950 boat slips, a private yacht club, several hotels, seafood restaurants and gift shop boutiques. Also has one of the best beaches in North County and is a popular for a wide range of boating and watersports activities. Boat charters are available for deep-sea fishing, whale-watching and Catalina Island ferry service. Special events include Harbor Days and the California Iron-man triathlon.

Guajome County Regional Park
Stradling the northern city boundaries of Oceanside and Vista is this moderate sized wilderness park. Picnic grounds, camping, fishing, nature trails, horse trails birdwatching in some of the most diverse habitat in San Diego County which includes stream, pond, marsh and a small lake. Near the lake you can see geese, ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and abundant evidence of other wildlife.

La Jolla Sea Caves Tour

This popular kayak tour will allow you to kayak the La Jolla sea caves and ecological reserve, which boasts an amazing array of scenery and wildlife you can't find anywhere else in San Diego.
