This gold-mining town, located in the mountains above Escondido on SR-78, gives visitors witha sense of early California. Main Street is a collection of false-front stores, wooden sidewalks, and the historical Julian Hotel.
The many nearby apple orchards are in blossom during springtime and provide an extra delight to visitors. And it actually snows here during the wintertime.
Julian is a rustic mountain top community named for Mike Julian, a mining recorder who worked the local gold mine in 1870. After the gold mines closed out, the community turned into a fruit-growing center and today is famed for its apple production. This area is surrounded by state park, national forest lands and abandoned gold mines making it a good location for desert or mountain camping trips.
Mention Julian to native San Diegans, and they will quickly ask you to bring back one of their famous apple pies.

Julian’s Little Attic boasts the finest lace collection in California, plus 1896 to 1913 clothing, photographs, household and mining equipment,
