Ocean Beach Pier
When completed in July 1966, the 1,971 foot-long Ocean Beach Pier was the longest concrete pier in the world.
The T-shape at the end extending 360 feet to the south end and 193 feet to the north end extends far into the Point Loma
kelp beds. This can attract some kelp resident species but can also cause a lot of tangles.
At this far end, where the water is 25 feet deep, the most common species are kelp bass, sand bass, several variety of
perch, bonito, mackerel, scorpionfish, halibut and, quite often, California lobster.
There is a restaurant and bait shop on the pier. Fishing from the pier does not require a fishing license, but catch regulations are enforced.

unique feature of Ocean Beach is Dog Beach, a sandy area at the north end. This is a dog run area where dogs are permitted without a leash at all hours of the day.
Numerous restaurants, surf shops, and other commercial establishments are available near the south end of the beach.

Robb Field Skate Park

Opened in Febr 2000, Robb Field has one of the most awesome and affordable skate parks in Southern California.
With 40,000 square feet of concrete, this skate park has something for everyone, regardless of age or skill level,
including a "street course" design which features a combination bowl, along with numerous handrails, ledges,
blocks, a pump bump and an octagon volcano.
Fort Rosecrans - US Military Reservation
Fort Rosecrans was created by the US military in 1852 on the southern tip of Point Loma.
Two small tracts later were set aside for lighthouse purposes, one at Ballast Point and
one at the tip of the reservation. The highlands on the southern tip of Point Loma, allow for the best views
of the San Diego city skyline. Before becoming an American territory, this location had previously housed
first a Spanish and then later a Mexican garrison (then known as Castillo Guijarros located near today's Ballast Point)
assigned to defend this strategic port.
Cabrillo National Monument - Point Loma
Located on the tip of Point Loma - this major landmark offers the best
scenic views of the San Diego skyline and a host of other great features.
It is also a great vista to watch the big ships sail in or out of San Diego Bay.
The monument includes a tall statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who is credited with the discovery of San Diego Bay on
Sept 28, 1542 and the first European to ever set foot on what is now the US West Coast.
MCRD San Diego Command Museum
Located at the historic San Diego Marine Corps Recruit Depot is
one of the most extensive and comprehensive displays of Marine Corps historical items in the Nation.
Naval Base Point Loma
Located at the mouth of San Diego harbor, Naval Base Point Loma comprises 316 acres on beautiful but rugged coastline,
although the main facilities are located on approximately 30 acres of relatively flat land. It has served primarily as a Submarine Base since
1959. Major warships based here is the Third Fleet command ship Coronado, and the five attack submarines of Submarine Squadron 11.
California Coastal National Monument
Established in 2000, the California Coastal National Monument runs the entire length of the
California coast (1,100 miles) between Oregon and Mexico, extends 12 nautical miles from the shoreline, and encompasses
thousands of BLM administered islands, rocks, exposed reefs, and pinnacles above mean high tide.
These provide forage and breeding grounds for significant populations of coastal birds and sea mammals.

Silver Strand State Beach
Following along the isthmus connecting Coronado Island to Imperial Beach with extensive beachfront facilities
on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area’s mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand
one of the area’s finest recreation destinations. Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and
picnicking are popular activities.
Border Field State Park
Tijuana River Refuge
Historic beach front site contains much of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, an important wildlife habitat.
The salt and freshwater marshes give refuge to migrating waterfowl and resident wading birds, such as black-necked stilt, avocet, teal,
American widgeon and pelican. The park offers hiking, horse trails, surf fishing and birding.
Tijuana River Valley Regional Park - San Ysidro
This 1638-acre park offers a diverse array of habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa.
Visitors may hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best bird watching spots in the county.
San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Sweetwater Marsh
The refuge, comprising 316 acres of salt marsh and coastal uplands and includes
the Sweetwater Marsh wildlife habitat - More than 200 species of birds have been recorded on the refuge.
