This US Navy Base is responsible to arm, repair, train, and supply some 140 tenant commands of the US Pacific Fleet.
It oversees several facilities including air base, aircraft carriers, amphibious base and several training installations.
The Navy operates their Morale, Welfare & Recreation department that includes a number of
NBC recreational and athletic facilities including golf course,
bowling alleys, swimming pools, sports and fitness centers, dining facilities, theater and hobby shops.

Border Field State Park
Tijuana River Refuge
Historic beach front site contains much of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, an important wildlife habitat.
The salt and freshwater marshes give refuge to migrating waterfowl and resident wading birds, such as black-necked stilt, avocet, teal,
American widgeon and pelican. The park offers hiking, horse trails, surf fishing and birding.
Tijuana River Valley Regional Park
This 1638-acre park offers a diverse array of habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along
the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa.
Visitors may hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best bird watching spots in the county.

NSW SuperSeal Triathlon
Annual Event since 1979 and held in conjuction with Naval Special Warfare Base at Coronado. If you want to know what
it feels like to train with US Navy Seals try racing 1.2 miles in brisk ocean waters, a flat and fast 56 mile bike ride
and a half marathon run done mostly through the sand.
Crown Cove Aquatic Center
Southwestern College watersports facility located between the city of Imperial Beach and the city of Coronado
in the Silver Strand State Beach, it provides a wide range of educational and
recreational activities to the surrounding communities. The primary focus is to promote boating and water safety programs with the vision to expand to other
boating sites in the area.
Imperial Beach Sandcastle Competition [JULY]
The largest sandcastle building competition in the US is held in late July. This weekend festival includes
a street festival, parade, live music and entertainment. All events are free to the public, except for the Sandcastle Ball.
Master and amateur sand carving teams from throughout the U.S. and Canada competed for more than $21,000 in cash prizes.
