San Diego Railroad Museum - Campo CA
Large collection of vintage locomotives and railcars. Public tours
of work shops available. Train rides run twice a day on Sat/Sun (and some holidays)
departing at noon and 2:30PM on a 16-mile loop pulled by a vintage diesel or steam locomotive.
Travel Town - Griffith Park
This outdoor transportation museum features steam locomotives and other early railroad equipment.
The outdoor exhibit area features early Los Angeles wagons, automobiles and fire-fighting equipment
dating to the period 1869-1940.
Pacific Railroad Society Museum - San Dimas CA
The museum maintains a diverse collection of railroad equipment in operating condition
include a locomotive, caboose, luxury railcars and street cars. The society also coordinates
special railroading excursions.
Calico Ghost Town Regional Park
Old Calico recreats mine tours, train ride, mystery shack, gunfights,
saloons and shops of the mining era. Canyon campground includes cabins and bunkhouse.
The mines here produced over $130 million in silver, borax and gold from 1881-1907
making it the richest district in California. Nearby is the Calico Early Man Archaeological Site.
San Diego Trolley
Original 15.9 mile commuter line runs from Downtown San Diego
to the Mexican border. Built in 1981, other extensions have since
been added.
