Oceanside boasts 3.5 miles of some of the widest beach in all of Southern California - Oceanside City Beach. Beaches have playground equipment and some 70 fire rings.
Special feature vacation guide covers local beaches, parks, Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside Harbor, Oceanside Pier, USMC Camp Pendleton and more. The first explorers arrived in 1769 and in 1798 the San Luis Rey mission was built. In 1841, the Mexican government granted major land grants for the area. When the California Southern Railway, a branch of the Santa Fe, began constructing a railway linking San Diego with San Bernardino. Completed in 1883, the railway opened the beach area of San Diego County for development and the real history of Oceanside began. In 1942, a large area to the north was used to create a training base for the Marine Corps.

Oceanside Days Inn at the Coast

Oceanside Harbor Days [Mid-Sept]
Two days of sun, sand, and surf provide an outstanding adventure opportunity including the
Mayor's cup regatta, fishing derby and bathtub derby where spectators watch amateur sailors
sink or swim in this contest which pits brain against brawn as teams build and navigate a seaworthy craft around a short, but treacherous course.
World Bodysurfing Championship - Oceanside CA [Late Aug]
Approximately 350-400 bodysurfers from around the world compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes.
The Men and Women's Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon.
Vendor sponsors will be featured with produst booths on the Strand during all three days of competition.

This San Diego beach features swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking.
The large bluff-top campground is very popular, especially in summer. There area also
three major wetland habitats. At least 103 bird species, 18 mammals, and 14 amphibians and
reptiles live in and around the lagoon, and many more birds visit during spring and fall migrations.
Beside regular Boat and WaveRunner rentals, local facilities manage a youth summer camp operation
with many exciting activities including surf instruction, wakeboarding, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking,
peddleboating, waverunners, oceanography, beach games.
Guajome County Regional Park
Stradling the northern city boundaries of Oceanside and Vista is this moderate sized wilderness park.
Picnic grounds, camping, fishing, nature trails, horse trails
birdwatching in some of the most diverse habitat in San Diego County
which includes stream, pond, marsh and a small lake. Near the lake you can
see geese, ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and abundant evidence of other wildlife.
Also home to historic Rancho Guajome Adobe and Antique Steam & Gas Engine Museum.
