Death Valley National Park
3.3 million acre preserve of the most inhospitable and also
scenic terrain in the continental United States. Many historical
landmarks and several species of plant and fish unique only to the
parkland.
Joshua Tree National Park
Large 870 square mile scenic preserve of desert wildlife.
Abundant camping, picnic grounds and hiking trail opportunities.
Mojave National Preserve
1.4 million acres of historic and natural desert wonders protected
since 1994.
Calico Ghost Town Regional Park
Old Calico recreats mine tours, train ride, mystery shack, gunfights,
saloons and shops of the mining era. Canyon campground includes cabins and bunkhouse.
The mines here produced over $130 million in silver, borax and gold from 1881-1907
making it the richest district in California. Nearby is the Calico Early Man Archaeological Site.
Empire Landing Park
10-acres park located 7 miles southwest of Parkder Dam on the
California side of the Colorado River. Facilities for
camping,
fishing,
wilderness trails,
boating and
watersports.
Red Rock Canyon State Park

Located 23 miles east Mojave on SR-14. Joshua trees, cholla cactus,
golden eagles, desert tortoises and coyotes thrive in a habitat
of colorfully eroded sandstone formations. Nearby a dirt track
called Opal Canyon Road leads to a fire opal mine open to the
public on weekends for prospecting. A visitor center explains
local geology and history. This was a landmark for passing wagon
trains.
