    1.4 million acres of raw desert in Southeastern California was set aside in 1994 for to protect the prehistoric, historic and natural resources of the area. The diverse landscape here includes mountains, mesas, red volcanic spires, cinder cones and sand dunes.

Adventure Links Recreational Activities - Mojave Desert

    The Mojave Desert is most popular from early November to late April. Outdoor climate is usually quite pleasant during this time of the year. Springtime is popular because desert wildflowers are in bloom.

    Keep in mind that summer temperatures can easily hit 130-plus degrees with little cooling in the nightime. Always carry extra water. Summertime activity should be significantly restricted or even avoided.

    Mitchell Caverns
    Located 15 miles north of I-15 on Essex Rd. Area known for many limestone caves. Old mines that are popular for rockhounds. Guided tours Mon-Fri 1:30PM (Sept-May / Weather permitting). Tour Price: Adult $6 / Child (6-17) $3. (760) 928-2586.

    The Amboy Crater and Lava Field is an extinct North American cinder cone that lies California's Mojave Desert just sits 2.5 miles west of the town of Amboy on historic U.S. Highway 66.

    a lone telephone booth in the Mojave National Preserve which attracted an online following in 1997, due to its unusual location. The booth was 15 miles from the nearest interstate highway, and miles from any buildings. The booth was removed on May 17, 2000.
