Legoland is the first park of its kind to be built in the USA. Designed primarily to give a fun educational play experience to young children ages 2-12. The many attractions, rides, shows and play areas feature the bright cheerful Lego colors and toys. Play activities include driving electric cars, boats and aircraft and to explore many fantasy settings. The primary focus is fun and educational experiences for families with young children. There are over 40 major fun rides and activities designed primarily for youngsters ages 2-12. Legoland's goal is to let the whole family explore creativity type themes. Legoland Park has six major regions. Additionally at The Beginning you can find Lego merchandise for sale and guest services. There is a large Lake in the center of the park where you can get boat tours of various models and of Miniland. Take a moment to appreciate the lush landscaping of the parks. Just one year before the park opened - this whole area was barren field. Landscapers planted 5,500 trees and 25,000 scrubs and created all topographical features from scratch.

The heart of the park is Miniland where over 20 million lego bricks (2/3rds of all the bricks in the park) recreate famous landmark attractions from around the world including New York, New England and many California landmarks. This is an interactive display where if you step on the right spot or say the right thing it comes to life and mini-characters entertain you. Two other Legoland theme parks have been built by the Lego Company; first at their corporate home in Denmark and the second in England. Each of these parks are built with well over 20 million of the famous Lego play bricks. Grand Opening for Legoland California was March 20, 1999 at a cost of $130 million. There have been several major additions since then and there is even more on the drawing board.
