    Santa Monica College – a two-year community college accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges – opened in 1929 with just 153 students. It has now grown to a thriving campus with 25,000 students and offerings in more than 80 fields of study.
    Madison Performing Arts Center - Performing and visual arts classes, public performances and exhibits, professional training and community arts education. 500-seat theater.

    The West Side has a new place to see and be seen, attracting throngs of happy shoppers and more than the occasional celebrity. A three-block stretch of 3rd Street in Santa Monica has been sealed off from traffic, turning it into a pedestrian shopping and dining mecca. In the center of Third Street are free-standing pavilions (which resemble Victorian greenhouses), with aged brass roofs. Colorful flower boxes bloom on many ledges, trees are plentiful, and bright flowers dangle from the old-fashioned, powder-blue street lamps. Colorful pushcarts, kiosks and vendors ply their wares, while assorted street performers entertain the passing crowd.
    Santa Monica Place - Large shopping district includes Macy's and Robinson-May, adjacent to the Promenade This mall is itself a movie star of sorts, featured in 1992's "Terminator II: Judgment Day."

    Santa Monica Municipal Pier

    Located at the foot of Colorado Avenue, this popular ocean fishing pier hosts shops, restaurants, arcade, mini-amusement park and a restored antique carousel with hand-carved wooden horses.

    The 19-mile South Bay Bike Trail from Santa Monica to Torrance takes you through some of the most entertaining beach towns anywhere. This trail follows the beach that inspires the popular TV series Baywatch. To the north is Malibu and to the south is Venice's Muscle Beach.

    Palisades Park
    Located on the blus overlooking the beach and pier, this park is a scenic spot for picnics.
