    Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of America both operate outdoor summer camps with week long camper sessions. Most camping slots are reserved by organized scout troops, but there are some individual openings. It is recommended that youth join with their friends in a locally organized scout troop.

    Camp Emerson - Idyllwild CA - CEIC Summer Mountain Camp - Snow camping during winter season. Features mountain hiking and lots of pine trees.
    Camp Helendale - Running Springs CA - CEIC Summer Mountain Camp - Today, it serves the best and most-complete Cub Scouting program during the summer. For younger Cubs, you can participate in Camp Wiley while your older Webelos can join us at the Tribe of Wisumahi.

    Firestone Scout Reservation - BSA Camp LAC
    Firestone Scout Reservation is nestled in Tonner Canyon just east of SR-57 between Brea and Diamond Bar, California. Facilities include wilderness trails, archery and gun range, orienteering, camping and wildlife. Popular large outdoor wilderness that is freeway accessible to most of Southern California.

    Camp Cherry Valley - BSA Camp SGVC
    Most popular Boy Scout Summer Camp in the Western United States - Reservations required two years in advance. Located on the leeward side of Santa Catalina Island , famous for a wide variety of water activities.

    BSA Camp Fiesta Island - Mission Bay
    Located in Mission Bay at the San Diego Youth Aquatic Center - this facility hosts weeklong summer camp programs for visiting boy scout troops with classes in Sailing, Boardsailing, Motorboating, Kayaking, Model Rocketry, Swimming, Oceanography and other classes not available at a typical boyscout mountain camp.

    Holcomb Valley Scout Reservation - BSA Camp SGVC
    This Boy Scout camp facility is located in the San Bernardino Mountains at 7500' elevation in a remote location halfway between mountain meadows and brilliant sunsets. Formerly used as a cattle ranch and movie set it still today retains the original ranch house and barn.

    Camp Trask - BSA Camp SGVC
    There are lots of reasons to come to Trask: The new dining hall, great swimming pool, archery range, Fort Rotary, and outdoor amphitheater for campfire programs. The silence in camp is broken only by the sound of the year-round stream which flows through camp. There are no city lights, so you can see the stars at night.

Balboa Park is home to some of the funnest museums and other attractions of San Diego. Many of the museums here offer special merit badge clinics.

    Southern California Beaches
    Many beach parks offer camping and getting a reservation is best done for non-summer months. Activities include moonlight beach hikes and watersports and the climate is pretty temperate. Also there is no better place for Tenderfoot scouts to find multiple types of wildlife and fauna.

    Southern California Mountains
    For scouts looking for extreme weather conditions - try a mountain top campsite in January or February. Be prepared for ice, snow and cold weather conditions. A major campout activity is to scale the nearest mountain top.

    Tour USMC Camp Pendleton
    Pleasant climate and located near the coast with many campsites available on the beach or inland. Base permission is required. Combine a overnight campout with either fishing, watersports or a guided tour of base facilities - a fun way to earn the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge.

    Borrego Desert
    Very remote, free campgrounds, explore mud caves, off-roading. Great anytime of year other than summer.

    Julian Mountains
    San Diego County - Wm Heise County Park youth area campground. Dayhike to top of mountains to see in all directions.

    Channel Islands National Park
    Camp on remote islands. Kayak and explore sea caves and marine wildlife.

    San Diego County Parks
    Several of the remote county parks have a special youth camp area which is just right for BSA Troops.
