Palmdale (pop: 152,750) is the sixth largest, and fastest growing city in Los Angeles County. For most of its existence it has had a small population; however for a brief time it was the largest "desert city" in California, but as of the 2010 census, it is now second to the city of Lancaster. Palmdale is also one of the largest cities in the United States that is not currently served by either an Interstate Freeway or a U.S. Highway. Sierra Highway was at one time labeled as U.S. Highway 6 until the State of California truncated it at Bishop.
