Saskatchewan is one of Canada's prairie provinces and is one of Canada's only two landlocked provinces.
The province's largest city is, Saskatoon and the provincial capital is Regina.
Other major cities, in order of size, are Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Swift Current and North Battleford.
Prince Albert National Park
Prince Albert National Park protects a slice of the ‘boreal’ forest. It is also a meeting place or transition zone between the parkland and the northern forest.
The park features many outstanding natural wonders and cultural treasures, including the only fully protected white pelican nesting colony in Canada,
the isolated, lakeside cabin of conservationist Grey Owl and a free-ranging herd of plains bison.
Prior to European settlement, Saskatchewan was populated by various Native American tribes
including members of the Athabaskan, Algonquian, Atsina, Cree, Saulteaux and Sioux tribes.
The first European to enter Saskatchewan was Henry Kelsey in 1690, who travelled up the Saskatchewan River in hopes of trading fur with the province's indigenous peoples.
The first permanent European settlement was a Hudson's Bay Company post at Cumberland House founded by Samuel Hearne in 1774.
