Tour Historic Fisherman's Wharf

One of the most popular tourism destinations, this waterfront marketplace is a hub for several major centers including the Anchorage, The Cannery, Ghirardelli Square and Pier 39.

This historic wharf was founded in the early days of California at the closest point between the entrance to the bay and downtown San Francisco. At its peak it bustled with the activity of Sicilian and Genoese fishermen.

Today it is one of the most popular attractions in San Francisco noted for its many picturesque sites and pungent smells. It is jammed with over 100 seafood restaurants and steaming crab pot markets. Also there is no shortage of tacky T-shirt and souvenir shops. Best buys are fresh seafood and sourdough bread.

Fish Alley
Find a huge supply of fresh sole, shrimp, salmon, sea bass, squid and other deep sea delicacies. Watch for crab season (Nov-June).

    This center is home to over 70 fabulous shops and restaurants but was first founded as the Woolen Mill in 1864. It shortly thereafter became very famous as a maker and distributor of fine chocolates (1893-1960).     Tour Golden Gate Promenade

    The four-mile-long Golden Gate Promenade follows San Francisco's northern waterfront beyond the Hyde Street Pier, making it a fun side trip from Fisherman's Wharf to the Presidio.

  • Naval Magnetic Silencing Rangehouse - Describes the distortion to the earth's magnetic force caused by large steel objects such as Naval ships.
  • Wave Organ - listen to the varying sounds of the waves as they splash around and into the pipes on the breakwater.
  • Debris from the 1906 earthquake is visible at low tide.
  • Birdwatching - plenty of sea gulls and brown pelicans.
  • Sea Lions - California Sea Lions are abundant in the bay and may be frequently seen passing by.
