Sacramento is the state capital of California and a major
transportation hub. In 1963 in became a major
inland port with the completion of a deep water channel to
San Francisco Bay.
Because of its central location in the very fertile San Joaquin Valley,
Agriculture, as the backbone to the local ecomony, has assured
continual prosperity for the region. Nearby high-tech industries and
military facilities have also contributed greatly.
Much of the early history is preserved in the historical sites and
landmarks of Old Sacramento. This section also

There are several fascinating Museums in the
Sacramento area.

The state capitol was built 1860-74. It includes a big glass dome
that rises 210 feet high. Public areas include major historical and
art exhibits in the restored main building and chambers and basement.
The parkland surrounding the capitol is a collection of trees and flora
from around the world.

This 600 acre park is located on the south side of Sacramento, bounded
by Freeport Blvd, Riverside Blvd, 13th Ave and Sutterville Rd.
Park Attractions:
First European outpost built 1839 in the California interior by Swiss immigrant
Capt. John Sutter. The restored adobe fort has artifacts from
pioneer and gold rush days.

Tour State Capitol
Located on the east end of State Capitol Park
Collection of 22 black granite panels engraved with names of
the 5,822 Californians who either died or missingin the war. Nearby
are bronze statues.
Hourly tours daily on the hour 10-4.
Located at 16th and H Sts, a short walk from the state capitol, is the
19th century governor's mansion. Public displays including furnishings
and personal momentos from former state governors including 1902 Steinway
piano and persion carpets. Surrounding parklands include trees and flowers
dating back to 1877.

Sutterville Rd; Open Daily 10-5
2.5 acre childrens amusement park based on popular nursery rhymes.
Includes puppet shows, and other outdoor activities.

Over 350 animals on exhibit including lions, tigers, zeebras,
cheetahs, and chimpanzees. Reptile house holds over 50 species.

This museum has on display every Ford model from 1903-52,
Including Model A's, Model T's and early Ford V-8's.
