The Rev. Herschell Harkins Memorial Pier (aka the Pacifica Pier) was built in 1973. Many anglers rate this place as probably the best fishing spot of all of California's 92 fishing piers. Pacifica Pier is the only place in the Bay Area, and on the California Coast, where you stand a decent chance of catching salmon without boarding a boat. On premium days, when the baitfish move in, as many as 200 salmon can be caught. About 30 to 50 is more common. Most salmon are in the 6 to 10 pound class.
