Saint John (pop: 68,043) is the second largest metropolitan center in the province of New Brunswick, and the oldest incorporated city. The city is situated along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the Saint John River. In 2006 the city proper had a population of 68,043. Until the early 2000s, Canada's largest shipyard had been an important employer in the city. Besides being the location of several historical forts, such as Fort Howe, Fort Dufferin, and the Carleton Martello Tower, Saint John is the location of a number of reserve units of the Canadian Forces.
