This national preserve covers sections of the Current and Jacks Fork rivers in Southern Missouri. It is noted for is rich foliage, abundant wildlife and immense Ozark beauty. Limestone bluffs rise 100 feet along the riverbanks.

Particularly noteworthy are the more than 60 springs in the area. Look for Big Spring, located just southeast of Van Buren; it is the nations largest natural spring flowing from a collapsed cave with an average of 286 million gallons of water a day.

The Ozark Mountains are home to over 4,000 caves, several of which are found along this riverway. The best sample in this area is Round Spring Cavern near the town of Eminence which offers guided lantern tours at 10AM and 2PM daily during the summer. (573) 858-3297.

Of course one of the biggest attraction here is the excellent kayak and canoeing riverways. Local outfitters also organize flot trips down the river.
