This refuge is the wintering grounds for one of the largest concentrations of Canadian geese in North America. A large concentration of over 100 bald eagles also winter here. Large flocks of waterfowl are seen here in Mar, Apr, Oct and Nov.

A visitor center features exhibits on local wildlife. The main entrance is County Road A, about 1 mile south of Sumner, MO.

Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge

10,670 acre refuge to protect wintering grounds for Canadian geese and American bald eagles.

Pershing State Park

2,909 acre preserve located 2 miles west of Laclede off US-36 and SR-130.

General Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site
SR-5, 1 mile north of US-36, Laclede, MO; (660) 963-2525;
Gen. John J. Pershing, highest ranking military officer in US history served as commander of the American armies in World War I. He lived here from age 6 (1866) until he left for West Point in 1882.

Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site
Located 3 miles west of Laclede on US-36, then 1 mile northeast on the gravel road. Built in 1868.
