One of the best museums in America, the American Museum of Natural History includes a wide range of permanent and changing exhibits. Many cultures are explored. There are some 42 exhibit halls with over 36 million artifact displays.
The Lila Acheson Wallace Wing of Mammals and Extinct Relatives - has several exhibit halls filled with dinosaur displays. The dinosaur hall alone has over 100 specimens including a Tyrannosaurus Rex and Apatosaurus. Other fossil displays cover more mammals and ancient fish. This museum has one of the largest fossil displays in the world.
Nearby is the new Rose Center for Earth and Space and it includes several new space science exhibits including Hayden Planetarium, Hall of the Universe, and Hall of Planet Earth.

Hall of Human Biology and Evolution - Exhibits focus on the many marvels of the human body. Includes models, dioramas, animation and holograms.
NatureMax Theater - Four-story IMAX theater with special features about natural, scientific or anthropological discoveries.
Hall of Biodiversity - Exhibits focus on Earth's wealth of plants and animals. Special feature is the complete walkthrough "Dzanga-Sangha Rainforest" life-size diorama.
Hall of Meteorites - Includes the 4-billion-year-old Ahnighito, the largest meteorite ever retrieved from the Earth's surface.
Hall of Minerals and Gems - Home to the 563-carat Star of India saphire and other rarities.
Hall of Ocean Life - fiberglass replica of 94-ft long blue whale hangs from the ceiling. 
in 2000 - Hayden Planetarium - high-tech exhibit housed in a 90-foot, glass-walled sphere.
Heilbrunn Cosmic Pathway - Witness the re-creation of the Big Bang, and the next 15 billion year history of the evolution of the Universe. 
in 2000 - Sky Theater - located at the top of the Planetarium, it uses an "all-dome video" to transport visitors from galaxy to galaxy. This state-of-the-art system is the largest and most powerful virtual reality simulator in the world. 
in 1999 - Cullman Hall of the Universe - permanent exhibit on the lower level of the Rose Center that highlights the most amazing discoveries of modern astrophysics. Many hands-on interactive exhibits. 
in 1999 - Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth - Exhibits of over 100 giant rocks explain the history and geology of our planet from such diverse locals as the ocean floor, glaciers and active volcanoes.
Scales of the Universe - It shows the relative comparison of size and distance of objects in our galaxy. Giant 400-foot-long walkway illustrates the vast range of size in the universe.
Earth Event Wall - Current news on major global events such as storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and much more.
Dynamic Earth Globe - Measuring eight feet in diameter is this globe with a unique internal project section over runs a 12-minute cycle slowing shifting from a view from outer space to a look at the diverse topography of the planet.
Hall of Biodiversity - with a life-size re-creation of the Dzanga-Sangha Rainforest (a giant walk-through diorama) and other exhibits, you see how a vast array of species interact within one ecosystem. 
in Feb, 2001 - Weston Pavilion - this exciting new exhibit hall is a 43-foot-high transparent structure. Its first exhibit is Measuring Time, Exploring Space - a special display of of astronomical instruments from the Hayden Planetarium collection.
Museum Library - This is the largest natural history research library in the Western Hemishpere with over 485,000 volumes of related works. Also included is a 13,000 items in the Rare Book and Manuscript Collection. The collections include Film archives and art and memorabilia collections.
The Giant Squid - There use to be a 25-foot-long specimen of 250 pound male giant squid on display. Another one is expected to soon become available. Look for it to come soon the Hall of Biodiversity.
