The Yankees came to New York in 1903 from Baltimore and were originally know as the Highlanders until they moved into the Polo Grounds in 1913. In 1921 the win the first of 37 American League Pennants.

Grand opening for Yankee Stadium was on April 18, 1923. The legendary George Herman ("Babe") Ruth made the first opening day even more momentous occasion by cracking a home run. This was only fitting, since Yankee Stadium is regularly called "the house that Ruth built." It is one of the oldest ballparks in Major League Baseball.

The New York Mets, organized by New York attorney William Shea, began play as a new National League franchise team in April 1962. They cinch their first National League pennant in 1969.

Shea Stadium's first game on Apr. 17, 1964 was the culmination of a project that cost $28.5 million and took 29 months to build. It was originally to be called Flushing Meadow Park, but a movement was launched to name it in honor of William A. Shea, the man that brought National League Baseball back to New York. It was also the first stadium capable of being converted from baseball to football and back using two motor-operated stands that moved on underground tracks.
