Situated at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, Prince George (pop: 71,000) is the largest city in northern British Columbia and is frequently referred to as "BC's Northern Capital". The town history dates back to the founding of the prominent northwest trading post in 1807 by Simon Fraser. Today lumber drives the local economy, with forestry, plywood manufacture, numerous sawmills and three pulp mills as major employers and customers.
