Tsegi Overlook
Tsegi - Navajo word for rock canyon. First site along the
South Rim Drive.
Junction Overlook
This viewpoint overlooks the junction of Canyon de Chelly
with Canyon del Muerto. Also visible is Junction Ruin
with 10 rooms and one kiva. Visible nearby is First Ruin
perched atop a ledge. Both belonged to the Anasazi 1050-1250 A.D.
White House Overlook
Third viewpoint lookout on South Rim Drive and only place
where you can explore into the canyon without the guide. The
White House Ruin Trail descends 600 feet to the canyon floor
where you can get a close look at the ruins. White House Ruins
are one of the largest in this region with about 80 rooms about
50 feet up the side of the opposite wall. Built by the Anasazi 1075-1250 A.D.
Visitors are restricted to stay on the trail at all times.
Sliding House Ruins
This drive overlook gives you a view of 50 room cliff dwelling
again from the Anasazi pueblo period.
Wild Cherry Overlook
Here you have an impressive view 1,000 feet above the canyon floor from
atop the steep canyon walls.
Face Rock Overlook
Here you have an impressive view 1,000 feet above the canyon floor from
atop the steep canyon walls.
Spider Rock Overlook
Overlooking the junction of Monument Canyon with Canyon de Chelly.
In the middle is the 800 foot free standing twin-monolith Spider Rock
Across the canyon is Speaking Rock. This wide canyon section
has one of the most spectacular vistas in the region.
