Region Overview

Located between pristine white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast and subtropical bayous, Mobile was orginally founded by the French in 1702. It includes four historical districts of grand mansion houses and museums.

Major points of interest:

  • Fort Conde - Major French fort / open daily.

  • USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park - 1-800-GANGWAY
    World War II battleship / open daily for public tours.

  • Church Street Historical District - 59 mostly pre-Civil War structure Free Admission. Open Tues-Sun.

  • History Museum - Located in the above historical district. Displays Mardi Gras costumes and antique horse-drawn carriages.

  • Phoenix Fire Museum - also near Church Street - displays shiny steam powered fire engines and other artifacts.

Special Events

Mardi Gras - The original French settlers started this festival back in 1704, celebrated in early spring every year since then.

Bienville Square Concerts - Free Admissions. Free lunchtime concerts every Wednesday during summer.
