Huntsville was a major industrial, cotton and railroad center during the
late 19th and early 20th century. It was settled in 1808 by Virginian
John Hunt.
After the Second World War it became
the first home for the Army rocket center and missile research - the forerunner to
the giant NASA space center located there today.

This giant facility has an incredible collection of high-tech
displays and exhibits, weightlessness simulators and a giant Omnimax
Cinema. Outside is a 120-yd long, 4-storey model of a Saturn-V rocket
and other space exploration vehicles. A must-see destination for
the entire family.
Its major achievements
include development of Explorer-I, the nation's first satellite, and
the mighty Saturn V rocket booster for the Apollo space program.
